FILTER STANDARDS DIFFERENT

FFP1

FFP1 filtering half masks are useful for protecting workers from low level exposure to dust or dirty conditions.  FFP1 class masks effectively filter at least 80% of airborne particles, and have a maximum internal leak rate of 22%.

These masks are ideally suited for shift work in construction, DIY or general maintenance.  For example hand sanding, drilling, metal, stone or wood work.  They are not suitable for high levels of contamination or medical roles such as protection against bacteria and viruses.

FFP1 – protects against low levels of fine dusts, fumes, water and oil based mists or aerosols in concentrations of up to 4 x WEL.

NR – non reusable.  Disposable masks suitable for single shift use only.
R – reusable.  Can be used for more than one shift and fulfil the 120mg loading test with solids and liquid aerosols.
D – these filters have passed the Dolomite clogging test, giving the user better breathing resistance.

Always use suitable respiratory protection when and where required in the workplace.  You can view our range of filtering half masks and PPE below.  Alternatively, call our friendly team today for expert, impartial advice.

FFP2

FFP2 filtering half masks protect workers from moderate levels of airborne particles including dust, aerosols and vapours.  These masks effectively filter at least 94% of airborne particles, and have a maximum internal leak rate of 8%.

FFP2 masks are the European equivalent to the US N95 standard half mask.  It has been recommended for use by the World Health Organisation  (WHO) during pandemic outbreaks such as SARS, and is regularly used in the health care industry to protect from exposure against influenza viruses.  They are ideal for use in construction, farming and waste management.

FFP2 – protects against moderate levels of hazardous fine dusts, water and oil based mists or aerosols and biological agents of risk group 2 in concentrations of up to 10 x WEL.

NR – non reusable.  Disposable masks suitable for single shift use only.
R – reusable.  Can be used for more than one shift and fulfil the 120mg loading test with solids and liquid aerosols.

FFP3

FFP3 filtering half masks protect workers from concentrated levels of airborne particles and toxins including dust, aerosols and bacteria.  These masks effectively filter at least 99% of airborne particles, and have a maximum internal leak rate of 2%.

FFP3 masks are regularly used in the health care industry in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals or to protect from bacteria and viruses. FFP3 face masks have proven effective during epidemic crises such as the ebola outbreak.  They are currently used in health care centres around the world during the COVID-19 pandemic.

FFP3 – protects against harmful or carcinogenic dusts, water and oil based mists or aerosols and biological agents of risk groups 2 and 3 in concentrations of up to 20 x WEL.

NR – non reusable.  Disposable masks suitable for single shift use only.
R – reusable.  Can be used for more than one shift and fulfil the 120mg loading test with solids and liquid aerosols.
